The New Phonebook's Here!

This is the kind of spontaneous publicity - your name in print! That MAKES people! ~Navin R Johnson

I just realized the other day that while I posted this link all over the social medias, I didn't post it on the actual website! I had an interview with and assembled a Top 10 list for St Louis Magazine last month, and it was really fun and made me feel famous for about 12 hours. You can read it here.

FALCONRY!

I'll be honest, dudes and dudettes, our wedding reception is this weekend and I'm out of brains right now. I was going to make some lame excuses about why I can't blog this week, so I can sit on the couch with a vodka & 7 and stupid YouTube videos, and then I remembered that I had these pictures from the falconry presentation at Powder Valley a few weeks ago.

Mysterious Barge Cargo

We had some time to kill in Alton, so we drove to Grafton, because the Great River Road is always a pleasant and interesting drive, and Grafton is a good spot to stop or turn around. We spotted this on the way up and Francis was ready with the camera as we drove back to Alton. I really am in awe of this camera that can take pictures like this from a car going 50 mph.

We attempted to solve the mystery by posting it to reddit, which was really fascinating for me. I have above average spacial reasoning skills, which is probably how I ended up staring at blueprints all day long. Here before me is essentially how everyone else answers the question "Which of these two dimensional shapes can be folded into this three dimensional shape?" or "Can square A fit inside circle B?" I feel like I now have the answer to the nagging question, "Why are there so many stupid add-on closets in my house?"  and that is, "Because Ed had no Tetris skills."

Anyway, what is this thing?

Return to the Mineral Springs Hotel

The first Mineral Springs post was my second post on the site, and this past weekend I returned with a fresh batch of victims. As we come up on the 5 year anniversary of CC&G, I've been dragging Francis to some of the places he missed in the early days. Keith had also missed this one, so he and Sarah joined us for the Saturday night tour.

Paul Brown Building

My wallet has been suffering since I stumbled across the downtown Local Harvest, but at least I keep finding stuff for the blog, right? Yes.

Nix Judy Pioneer Cemetery

As evidenced by the new, "What's Good" Thursday feature, my eyes are peeled for blog content everywhere I go. If I see something cool, I have to stop. This happened a couple months ago when I saw this cemetery on the way to a meeting at SIUE. I debated coming back another time but ultimately couldn't resist pulling into the drive and snapping a few quick pictures.

Newman Money Museum

We stopped here a couple months ago because I wanted to show Francis one of the least known museums in St Louis. I took a few pictures, but they are pretty much the same as the last visit (which was in 2009, so it may be new to you, too).

Eat St Louis

Over on the Facebook page, I like to make up silly goals as a sort of fan pledge drive. The most recent was that I would eat haggis if I got 500 fans, and yesterday that goal was met! HOORAY! This is the perfect opportunity to tell you about the new project I dreamed up!
