Wheel Inn Drive-In

Man, that July heat wave was miserable, wasn't it? This summer I have been as lazy as I normally am in December, but I'm trying to get back in the swing of things. I have a lot of visits to write about, but this one is a priority for all my Facebook fans. We're in Sedalia, MO for the state fair and we ate at the Wheel Inn not two three (detour to hotel bar) hours ago, so this is hot off the presses!

Long before I started this blog, I was interested in every kind of unusual roadside attraction, and I did a lot of reading of both guidebooks and websites. Nearly every single one mentions the Wheel Inn Drive-in's Guberburger as a "weird food" of Missouri. Wheel Inn has been serving up their famous steak burger with lettuce, tomato, salad dressing (some say mayonnaise, but us mayo purists know salad dressing is not mayo), and PEANUT BUTTER since 1947. Yes, your burger comes with a dollop of warm peanut butter.

I have to say, I was skeptical. I felt like I had to try it, since I was going to be in Sedalia anyway and this is mentioned by all the books, websites, and travel shows. But boy, that combination of toppings sounded like a test of my cast iron stomach. So I put it out to my friends: get me to 400 Facebook friends by days end on Friday, and I will eat the Guberburger.

By the end of the day we had 409 fans! YAY! So despite getting a little lost, we stuck it out until we found the Wheel Inn and I ate that Guberburger! And you know what? IT WAS DELICIOUS. A+, would eat again! At first your tastebuds are kind of confused, but by the time you finish, peanut butter on a burger makes perfect sense and you'll wonder why more restaurants don't do it. Seriously.

I had a lot of fun with the Facebook fan drive and am already thinking about my next "personal dare". If you're not a fan already, click our Facebook link on the sidebar. Once there, click like, and hover over that button until you can check "Show in News Feed"!
